The spirit detective was doing well hiding the fact that he was still having trouble controlling his demon side considering he was having to forcefully beat it down constantly. He was thankful for his comrade's presence, especially Kurama. He was the 'sensible' one of their team and understood somewhat what it was like to have two sides to you. Kuwabara was his best friend but he was only human. The young Toushin could relate more to the two demons of their group. Especially since he'd found the nature of his origins. Besides, Kuwabara wanted Yusuke to remain in the Ningenkai and live, but Raizen's heir knew his destiny lay in the land of his ancestor. He had vowed to become the King of Makai after all. He would see that vow accomplished, and now he had nothing here to hold him back.

Kurama finally lifted his gaze that had been fixed on the ground, and only then did he care to know where they were going. He'd already predicted where that was, so there were no surprises when he looked down the familiar pathway to Genkai's shrine. He said nothing on the way, chosing not to disturb the silence between them.

Yusuke paused for a moment at the bottom of the stairs that led up to the shrine, "I might not be comin' back with ya Kurama...When all this is over." He stated quietly, his chocolate gaze falling on the stairs above them. He'd been thinking on that the whole way there, and the more he thought about it, the better it seemed.

Kurama's soft gaze turned toward him as he spoke, then drifted away. "Yes," he agreed, even quieter than usual, "But let's not finalize that now" Of course he didn't want his companion to leave them, but it may be for the best, and he was really in no position to oppose.

"Just warnin' ya ahead of time." By the sound of his voice, this decision was already made and he was planning to stick by it. Yusuke still hesitated, simply gazing up the steps of the shrine. The large blue phoenix was visible from there, preening his wings while crooning in his usual fashion. The large bird looked up and blinked at the two, an affectionate 'Puu' given as he caught sight of his counterpart, large wings lifting him easily into the air to soar down gracefully to the young raven-haired toushin. "Hey Puu." The young man greeted his spirit beast, and only companion of the last month, warmly, petting his beak.

Kurama made little to no reaction to the spirit beast's presence. He only stared, almost blankly at the shrine, deep in thought. After what seemed like forever to him, he turned his gaze to the large pheonix that came to greet Yusuke. His smiled returned for a brief moment as he watched, relieved for a while of the new burden his worries lay on him.

Yusuke laughed a little as his spirit beast crooned, wrapping his head about Yusuke in what resembled a hug. It was rather hard to believe the giant blue bird was a reflection of the rough boy's soul as the two acted extremely different sometimes. Of course, if one knew Yusuke well enough, than they also knew his 'tough' exterior merely hid the loyal soul he hid inside. Having a rough home life had been the cause of the rough exterior, though years of being a Spirit Detective had worn that down a ways.

Kurama kept quiet, letting them have some time to themselves. He had no intention of stopping them now that Yusuke finally seemed to have something to be glad about. Brilliant emerald eyes turned to the interior of the shrine as he became lost in thought once more.

"What do ya think Puu?" Yusuke was saying to the large bird, having already told him of his plan to stay in the Makai. Puu, of course, didn't like the plan that much, but crooned happily anyway, rather glad to be back with Yusuke. He too had been suffering since the loss of Keiko, of course, that was only to be expected. Both of them would move on eventually, gaining support from each other. It was odd to see the two of them together, Toushin and Spirit Beast. It was one of those odd moments when the demon was gentle and the two played as though children. They drew strength from each other, and their likenesses were almost funny. What with Puu's mane of raven hair going down his back like a mohawk and Yusuke's craving for anchovees lately. Well, that was just scary, but some things couldn't be helped. Especially things that had to do with a large, blue phoenix that just loved to follow you around like a gigantic puppy with big eyes and huge feathery wings. And a raven colored mohawk.

The same thing had been on his mind since leaving the courtyard, and still disturbed him, even now. He didn't say anything of course, and because of it few people ever knew what ran through his mind. Sometimes it was hard to tell if he was pondering at all. Kurama turned back to the pair, hoping to take his mind off whatever bothered him now, including having to leave Yusuke.

Yusuke was gazing affectionately at the blue bird as he soared gracefully back up towards the shrine. That was one of those rare moments when if one were quick enough, they could catch him like that. A thoughtful look had found its way over the Toushin's features, though what thoughts had found themselves running amok in his mind it was unknown. For the raven-haired warrior rarely disclosed his private thoughts with others, it just wasn't the 'manly' thing to do.

Kurama watched the spirit beast for a moment in aw, then finally turned to Yusuke. He hesitated, then spoke. "Are you ready to go?" he asked quietly, not completely convinced he should speak now, but they did need to leave after all.

"I guess..." He hesitated, though knew he could stall no longer. He'd made up his mind, though it wasn't for revenge only now. The demons needed to be brought to justice and so they would be. One way or the other. He sighed, head shaking very slightly as he made his way up the steps slowly, gaze set ahead.

Kurama followed him up the stairs without a word. Whatever happened in demon world, he'd already offered to help Yusuke, and that's exactly what he planned to do, no questions asked.

An odd thought had struck Kazuma as he paused merely a yard or so from his stoop. In all actuality it wasn't the thought that was odd, rather that it was the fact that it had only just now dawned upon him was the queer bit. His friend couldn't actually be planning to go back to that demon-infested hellhole...could he? Of course not! That would be stupid he had only just returned recently. The little inquiry itched the back of his red crested skull as he placed a shaking hand on the cold brass doorknob.
Ten minutes later he could be seen rushing along the concrete bent forward to an extreme degree cursing gently under his breath...if it wasn't for his damned conscience.
