A deafening silence cleansed the usually chaotic city of its congestion. The air seemed a frail shell of the beast it had been last afternoon, tearing through the crowded streets, howling and having an awful fit. On this day however the sky was clear, a boundless tranquil sea hung over the humdrum city, buttermilk sun casting it’s golden rays down upon ever the darkest alley. Ah…the blissful peace a school day offers to the few adults that chance a day of seclusion…shattered at the same time…day after day…year after year by that damned bell. It wasn’t that the bell it self was too disturbing,oh on the contrary, it was the very same bell used all over the country, a quaint homey tone that rose and fell with those eight distinct notes. But what was the shriek of a banshee to some was the song of an angel to others: the students of Sayashaki junior, whom trudged to ‘work’ every day in the blazing heat adored that sound, watched the gatekeepers mighty plastic hand tick away as it prepared to summon the glorious release bell.
The trumpet sounded, faithful as ever, launching the flight of a thousand rage fed bulls. A miniature earthquake rose like clockwork as the antsy students fled from the institute, scuffed uniformed shoes thundering against the crusty mud of the schoolyard. One particularly tall eighth grade boy kept a casual stride, his brilliant red crown of hair bouncing gently with his step. Broad shoulders sagging slightly came to a bend at the elbows allowing his rather large callous hands to rest in the tiny cotton hammocks that his pant-pockets provided. The tall eighth grade boy kept a casual stride; his brilliant red crown of hair bouncing gently with his step. His pace may have been quite slow compared to those around him, but getting mixed up in a crowd had never really been a fear of his, standing six foot four he did have a fair enough view of the dry gated expanse. With a throaty yawn he rounded the corner, leaving the land of chain-link fencing and demonic teachers in the dust. After trudging on down the beaten concrete he found his miniature Eden. A rather large court containing only a thick patch on unkempt grass and a cluster of young oaks crammed between the schools left retaining wall and a new-age library. He wandered over, a thin smile painted on his horse like jaw as he slid his book bag off of his tired shoulder, drawing both hands from their nests to stretch in a quite exaggerated manner. With a final satisfied sigh he collapsed again the tree, one leg strait about before him the other gathered up at the knee. The shade was sufficient, though several stray beams of light broke through the leafy haze to fall upon his hair and brow.Satisfied with his escape he thrust his quite large hands into his book-bag, rather disorganized, but in such a way that he could locate what he needed within forty-five seconds tops. After fumbling with some loose articles he withdrew a massive foot-long sub sandwich, it was magnificent. The perfect after-school five pound tied you over-until your sister’s horrid dinner-snack.“Now this is what I call lunch! Hey wait…forgot the mustard!” humming a happy tune to himself he plunged his free hand back into the bag, a wide grin stretched across his protruding cheekbones. [/size] [/sup]

One might have thought hell had frozen over and the stars had fallen from the sky as the figure made his way down the backstreets. White t-shirt was loose on his well-built-but-looking-as-though-he'd-not-eaten-in-days frame. Blue jeans were somewhat large for him, but that hadn't stopped him from emerging from the shrine finally. He'd grown tired of spending his days there, doing nothing but training and drowning in his own sorrow. Chocolate eyes still held the voidal, dull look but he fell easily once more into the cocky gait most associated with him. This was more for public reputation up-keep than actual wanting to do it. Raven hair was loose as he'd run out of gel some time ago and hadn't gotten around to getting anymore. Hands were subsequently placed behind his head in the usual fashion, him looking around at the sights he'd not seen in quite awhile.
It had been nearly a month and a half since he'd last been outside the shrine, a month and a half since the young Toushin had lost his lover. He sighed, head shaking as he pushed the thoughts to the back of his mind. It would do him no good to think about such things now.

Light green eyes glanced up at the clock as the bell rang throughout the school, signaling the end of class. The noise in the classroom rose instantly to an uproar as students prepared to finally leave and return home. Kurama slung his bag over one shoulder and followed the crowd out. He was the last to exit, since everyone else was, as usual, in such a rush to leave the dreaded school. Kurama himself didn't mind. He was indifferent about the whole concept and infact, found some classes rather interesting. A light smile formed as he looked up at the clear blue sky, admiring the nice weather that so rarely came. Long, vivid red hair swayed gently in the soft breeze that occasionaly swept past him. He breathed deeply and allowed his gaze to drop once again to the action ahead of him. As he rounded another corner, that soft, emerald gaze wandered toward the familiar courtyard, which he passed every weekday. He smiled warmly as he caught a glimpse of his friend's familiar figure behind one of the many oaks. It wasn't everyday he met him on the way home, and so he changed course and headed toward him. Seeing Kuwabara also caused him to wonder what Yusuke was doing, but his thought was cut short as he stopped next to the tall young man. "Hello Kuwabara," he greeted, his voice smooth and somewhat quiet as usual.

Kazuma directed his gazed upward, thin dark eyes scanning over his bookish comrade. " Hey Kurama! What brings you to my neck of the woods anyway?" He inquired leaning his head back against the tender bark, gazing at the green heavens above. Kazuma decided, as usual that he didn’t care to wait foe an answer. His warm expression faded into displaced scowl. "Urameshi…he’s still not doin’ so good…won’t even talk anymore…and no matter how I bug im’ he just won’t show for classes...at this rate he won’t even make it through high school…" His head lowered slightly, the shadow cast by his mass of orange hair overshadowing his eyes, his speech becoming a clean whisper. “ I’m startin’ to worry…” It was hard, for a man of his ‘honor’ to admit any compassion towards his former rival...but even since they canned Sensui…and Yusuke had first realized the truth of his nature…

Their topic of conversation just happened to be passing by at the right moment and the words reached his ears. He paused in his steps, turning to watch his two comrades, though didn't join them right off. The raven-haired teen merely stood there, arms now crossed and watched them out of chocolate eyes. Kuwabara's words were true of course, he had been a tiny bit reclusive, but he hadn't thought it had been that bad. Of course, he hadn't thought a lot of things lately. He blinked at his former rival's last words, though had yet to approach them. He found he preferred to watch from afar right now, didn't find himself ready to speak to them yet. He couldn't really describe the feeling, yet some would say it was akin to some sort of shame. Of course, Yusuke didn't think it was shame that held him in place, but he couldn't be too sure about it.

Kurama's smile sank to a solemn expression as he heard the news. He hadn't yet noticed the presence of their friend, nor did he expect him to drop by at a time like this. "Yusuke has enough on his mind now to have to worry about schoolwork. It's of little importance now compare to what he's been dealing with lately," he said, almost matching his tone. Kurama was just as concerned about the whole situation as he was, but wasn't one to pour much of his thoughts out to anyone.

He had to admit he was a tad touched by such concern over his behalf. Of course, he didn't particularly believe they should be worried about him, he was able to take care of himself after all. He'd done it his whole life. Well...Nearly. Those thoughts brought up thoughts of Keiko and he had to close his eyes with a deep breath to ensure his silence was kept. Fists clenched once as they fell to his sides before relaxing again, chocolate eyes opening to gaze once more at his old comrades. Yusuke shook his head, loose hair going wild with the gesture. He was worried little about school, he rarely ever went anyway. When he did show up for the boring classes he usually ended up ditching them half the time. No, he was preoccupied with other things, things he deemed more important than school. After all, his destiny, or so he figured, lay elsewhere.
The young Toushin did wish the Junior God would give him a new case, as it would definitely take his mind off things, let him vent a little of the grief and anger that still resided inside him. Of course, Botan still came to visit once in awhile, but it did little good as he was usually training or simply didn't want to be bothered.

Kazuma’s lips parted momentarily as he prepared to sleep, but he just allowed it to tremble for a moment before returning to staring idly at the grass about his side. He seemed slightly taken aback by Kurama’s little rebuttal…he was right of course, but at the same time he couldn’t avoid the question of what that entailed for Yusuke’s life…which if he had anything to do with would be spent in the ningenkai. “I know but…he still needs to be thinkin’ about the future…” (Although his plan for the future consisted roughly of a certain ice maiden and a polished crimson sports car) There really wasn’t anymore for him to say, or rather that he felt comfortable coming to terms with.

Kurama followed his gaze down to the grass. He had a point, but in Yusuke's case it was most likely easier said than done. A quiet sigh escaped his delicate lips, scarcely breaking the silence between them. At that moment he turned, and nearly flinched when he saw Yusuke's familiar figure not far from where they were. He'd obviously been listening, possibly the whole conversation. But it wasn't exactly something for him to worry about, and he glanced back once at Kuwabara, before his gaze drifted back to Yusuke.

Looking up, chocolate gaze landing on the red-haired kitsune, Yusuke knew he'd been spotted at last. Now, unless he wanted to be rude, he would have to approach them. Sighing, he let his arms settle behind his head as he walked, trying to keep up a lazy image though knowing he wasn't fooling his two comrades. He said nothing as he approached, dull eyes fixed on the ground before his feet, loose hair making him look rather odd.

A slight surge of excitement seemed to momentarily light his features, but it fell back to the norm as he remembered why exactly Yusuke had extended his absence. “Hey Urameshi…” He muttered under his breath casting his sandwich aside, for perhaps the first time in his life, he had completely lost his appetite.

Kurama forced on a smile once more as he approached. It was somewhat real, but not entirely. "Hello Yusuke," he started, not wanting to get back onto the same subject so quickly. He glanced down at Kuwabara, who probably felt similar about Yusuke's presence as he did.

The raven-haired Toushin nodded once at the two of them, "Kuwabara, Kurama." This was all he said, though even he knew his silence was slightly uncharacteristic. He couldn't really help it though, as perhaps for the first time in a long while, Yusuke didn't know what to say. True enough he'd heard their conversation and one might say he knew what Kuwabara thought about his future. Of course, he also knew they were of conflicting ideas. He cut his thoughts off and focused attention on the two before him, trying to think of something to say.

Kurama only gave a slight nod and turned his gaze to the ground again, also rendered speechless by the awkward moment. He took a few seconds to remember what Yusuke had heard, just so he knew the same material. Then he finally spoke. "How are you Yusuke?" he inquired, now looking at him again.

Kazuma stumbled over his words, floundered if you will and came up empty...fishing really wasn’t his sport. “Sandwich?” He inquired hopefully with a phony dense grin plastered on his long jaw as he retrieved the sandwich and held it out like an offering to that of godly stature. “Man, You look like ya’ haven’t eaten in days …”
