The sky opened up and made known its sorrows as the rain poured down upon the empty courtyard of the long-abandoned shrine. The presence that had just appeared in the human realm had not been felt there for nigh ten years. Not since things had turned so bitter between those once bonded as close as brothers. The fallout had happened just after their last tournament, where they'd gone to rescue the demi-god and Yusuke had been captured by the demon. The young Toushin had come back changed and no one outside the four of them truly knew the cause of their bitter goodbyes. Yusuke Urameshi had left Ningenkai for what everyone thought forever. It seemed forever was shorter than anyone believed. Of course, the raven-haired toushin didn't plan on seeing the others anyway, they'd probably all gone their seperate ways by now.
He sighed, shaking his head as he glanced around the old shrine, light disapproval at the upkeeping of it able to be seen flashing quickly over his features. They softened a little though, when his ruby gaze reached the small mound that played host to his old teacher. "Grandma.." His voice hadn't changed a bit, though it was softer, made so over the recent years as he was humbled by the Makai. The mighty youkai kneeled before the old mound of dirt gently ran his fingers over the head-stone, taking note of the fresh rose that lay across it. It did have the distinct smell of the fox-turned-human. So, Kurama kept up with the years it seemed. Yusuke gave an empty smile towards the grave, standing looking around. He was no longer the cocky teenager he'd been so long ago. Now he was just an empty youkai with an equally empty future. He shook his head, chasing the thought of going back to the Makai from his mind. He'd left his home in Mercy's capable hands and he knew she'd take care of it until he returned. For now, he needed to face his past.

((Ouch... Ok, five years past our present tournament & the four friends are now bitter enemies.... I'll see how I can add Yukima & Ryo in. ^^; ) A female was now headed in Yusuke's direction. It just happened to be Yukima, one of his old friends. Five years has pasted since to two saw each other... her hair was now twice as long when she was 15 and darker. The clothes she was wearing now had an even longer cape, was a darker color of blue, perhaps navy even, and looked torn and very worn out from fighting many battles and training non-stop. She was now 20 years old and now had possession of her Iced-red rose that she found about a year or two ago, which was now attached to her top. She was in her human form for now and wondering where her friends were and what they were up to now. After graduating from high school she went to college for a degree in Medicine to become a doctor. Stopping a few feet in front of someone, she took a closer look, to see who they were. ' Could this be....' "Yusuke?" she mutttered, unsure if it was him or not.

The Toushin glanced up at his old friend, "Yukima?" He questioned quietly, his chocolate gaze widening slightly in recognition. It was clear he wasn't the same as he had been five years ago. The fallout had taken its toll on the former Spirit Detective, as was clear from the look of him. He wore an emerald fighting gi with a black tie around his waist, though it hung from him slightly. It was a size to big, having been found in a vault in Raizen's old tower. He did indeed remember Yukima, though she'd changed over the years it seemed. Yusuke wondered briefly if she'd spoken to any of the others.

She gave a slight and friendly laugh, "Yes, it me alright." Yukima responed. "Heh you look..... different." was all she could sum up for now. She knew from him being gone for 5 years, he'd definately look different but she didn't expect that for herself as well. Being a dragon demon, she doesn't age very much, well, not like a human would. Though she did look more mature than when she was 15. But trying to maintain two lives, one as a demon in Makai and the other as a human in Negenkai, would make anyone become of age.
"Uh... welcome back Yusuke. It's good to see you again. What have you been up too?" Yukima asked. She was very curious to what the Toushin had been up to. She'd missed her old cocky friend. Negenkai just didn't seem the same when he left.

Yusuke shrugged, "Running my part of the Makai mostly. Doing a few rogue missions for Koenma when he needs me." He shrugged, his hands having been stuffed in his pockets as he turned his gaze away from her to look around. "No one's bothered to keep the shrine up?" He questioned, sounding slightly irritated by the fact. Genkai had left the shrine to them, and they just disregarded it as though it had followed the old martial artist to her grave. He sighed, shaking his head as he turned his gaze towards her grave. He hadn't been here when she'd died.

"The usual I see." said Yukima. Listening to what else he said to her, her smile disappered from her face completely as she looked at Genkai's grave. "Well, I have in my spare time. I haven't been able to this year because of college. But untill now, I was about to when I saw that you'd finally returned. I haven't been able to talk to the others much, I've kinda, keep to mysel the past 4 years... so I don't know if they've been up here at all." she answered. With the few times she had been in Makai, she never saw the Toushin at all. And that surprised her seeing how he'd been there the whole five years. She wondered if he noticed what was on her shirt.

"Kurama's been here..." That was the only one of them that he could tell had been there. He shook his head, thinking about the others briefly. It hadn't been like him to hide out in the Makai just so he wouldn't have to face his former friends after a rather bad fight. He gave a quiet sigh, seeming to withdraw into himself, something he'd been doing more and more the past five years, distancing himself from others in a very un-Yusuke-like manner.

(I'm here!) Silently,, a large...beast slept inside the shrine. She'd needed shelter from the oncoming rain and snooped out her favorite spot in Genkai's temple; a rug that had already thouroughly become infected with cat hair. Jess hadn't spoken to much of anyone after the tournament. The large, almost star-shaped marking on the demon's belly was her scar reminder of Penumbra's final hurrah at the tournament. A large rip in her wing was another; sewed up with thick surgical string. Her dark powers had become more rampant after the tournament, hence her withdrawl. If she harmed one of her friends, God help the three realms.

With Yukima's leave Yusuke let his demon energy run rampant, reveling in the feeling it gave him. It calmed him, when he was able to let it loose. He felt briefly, a familiar presence inside the temple and headed back inside, intent on finding out who was in there. He searched the place thoroughly before actually finding the familiar demon, "Jess?" Talk about a sight for sore eyes. She'd been the last one he'd talked to before heading back to the Makai for what he'd thought then, for good. He shook his head, leaning against the wall.

The demon's head shot up, and you could see the final assaut of Penumbra on her face. Two jagged, red lines, one from each eye, ran down the length of her face like tear lines. But this did not deter the hybrid from making, what Ari had dubbed as her 'happy noise', a squee-purr vocalization and tackling the toushin. Jess was clearly delighted to see her old friend once again.

Yusuke laughed, something he'd not done for what seemed forever, when Jess tackled him. He hadn't been expecting it and had fallen backwards. He merely shook his head and looked down at her with an amused expression over his face. He definitely hadn't been expecting a 'warm' welcome per se. More like the cold shoulder from everyone. He had, after all, just up and left everyone.

After a moment of sheer glompy happiness, the demon stood up and returned to her normal, humanoid form. The hybrid had certainly changed on the outside. Plently of new scars, including one that was actually a small, twisted, and ripped-up heart on her shoulder. But inside this was still Jess. The warm, lonely little (literally) hybrid who'd become rather attatched to her friends. Ever since Ari's death at the hands of a certain someone whom we shall not mention (it's a suprise), the bronze-haired girl hadn't had much to say about anyone. "Yus-chan!", she said happily, tail nearly wagging.

Yusuke managed a lopsided grin as he looked his friend over, "How are ya Jess?" He questioned softly, this seeming to be a natural tone for him lately. The Makai had humbled him greatly over the years he'd been there. The last five years hadn't been all that nice to him either, as his chocolate gaze showed. It was empty, save for the look of an old soldier who'd lost nearly everything that made him who he was.
