Kurama crossed his arms gently over his chest, remaining there against the trunk of the tree, and slowly allowed his own eyes to close as well. He was far from falling asleep though, keeping his other senses alert. This was demon world afterall, and it never hurt to be careful.

(( You took my idea)) Hiei looked towrd the distant forest. This journey, once again, brought back memories. Most were unpleasent. A small breeze ruffled the youkai's hair as he examined his sword. It was better to be over cautious than go into battle unprepared.

Ari yawned, but decided against sleep. Jess, however, had no quarrels over this, falling asleep immediately. Those huge ears weren't there for nothing. She could've been asleep in the middle of a highway during rush hour and still heard a person approaching at 200 yards. Or two basic dragonlengths. Whichever system you preferred. The lycan Ari slowly morphed back to her humanoid form. Short-cropped, nut-brown hair nearly hid a pair of silvery wolven ears, and her tail was just one great big flff of fur. Her eyes were a jade green, clever and cunning.

Shintaru plucked herself heavily from the ground (which she had been resting on for the past thirty posts or so) and gazed with a slightly optimistic air at her dear friend, and /loyal/ employee. “What brings you to the Makai darling Kaitlyn, oh wait…let me guess…our beloved couple has been itchin’ at your final nerve, right? Thought you’d get some fresh air in what might as well be the bowels of hell perhaps?” She shifted tersely from one hip to other incapable of deciding which she preferred baring the imposing weight. “I suppose this means you aren’t afraid my little pets anymore then…and I also suppose that my fellow /teammates/ will be asking several questions…so have ya’ got a good cover story cooked up for your little escapade? Or do we straight out spill the prolific beans?”

She grinned slightly, and shrugged, speaking in her native English so as to avoid too much suspicion from the others in the group. "Well, I strongly advise you to avoid Nicole for awhile...No, no more fear, obviously..Vince is so sweet! And..uhh...Cover story...Right...Well, you can't blame me completely..Ponzu here dashed off, Vince followed...Kinda hard to object when you're going that fast...Eheh...You're good with improv, no? Kuwabara already knows...But what about the rest? You are the leader here, therefore, you get to decide what we should tell them. So, what should we tell them?"
Now she said all of this much faster than usual, and in English, so it could be safely hypothosized that she had taken a morning trip to the dessert bar before making her little trip to the Makai, as she was obviously very hyper in a calm sort of way, if that makes any sense. (I've been reading way too much Douglas Adams...)

Sighing, Yusuke lurched to his feet, staring off into the distance with a rather unreadable look on his face. He was thinking again, wondering the reasons behind Merkio's sudden take-over of the Makai, and his sudden interest in himself. For that alone was the reason he'd taken Koenma and Botan, the Toushin was quite sure of that. He clenched a fist at his side, ruby eyes narrowing in frustration as he fought to find the exact reason behind the demon's recent activity. "This don't make any sense." He murmured quietly, head shaking.

Kurama opened his eyes again and turned toward the toushin who, apparently, was muttering something to himself. He had a good idea what was on his mind at this point. The kitsune scanned the area once out of habit before taking a seat against the trunk of the tree. He himself began to wonder about the reason behind this whole mess.

One of the semi-large hybrid's ears twitched in response to Yusuke's mutterings. Like housecats, she could hear perfectly well in her sleep. The tip of her coal-black furred tail twitched gently, beating against the ground. Ari, meanwhile, had taken to leaning against a nearby tree near Jess' Spirit Beast. The said Spirit Beast was stil watching the Scavengers with keen interest. In a way, they were related. Both had some draconian blood in their veins, if he wasn't mistaken. But hearing the toushin's muttering, Sha-Rin swiveled his head around to face the raven-haired boy. His head cocked a quarter turn to the side, azure eyes questioning. He may have been unable to speak, but Rinny understood what was being said, and wondered the same thing.

“Alright alright hold your mach-ostrich, ill see what I can do. I’ve been trying to fix on whether Kazuma’s prior acquaintance with our operations is a benefit or not…he’s a fine kid, but will he really keep his yap shut when we find our selves immersed in heated conversation? Only time will tell. And luckily I doubt any of my queer-piers are eavesdropping, a spirit beast or two may of picked up a bit…but seeing how must beats can only say a single word and make an array of dumpy discomfited noises we may be in luck. I’ve volunteered my self to fight for team Urameshi…and I’m planning on going scythe style, all that magic jazz I acquired just feels so iffy, I always prefer a nice blade-on-blade. Now if in battle we enter condition red I want you to immediately contact an extermination squad from HQ, I’m sure you know what will ensue…get away if need be. We don’t want a repeat of last summer then, do we? We nearly lost him in that accident, so hold your own, you played your cards well last round…but this time might be different…it may be what we classified as “Berserk”. “
A sort of wear shone in the beasts eyes as she extended her left hand upward slightly..for a brief moment it seemed there was no difference between claw and finger..that her hand was no more than an elegantly crafted cage set onto the earth for the sole purpose of slaying those beneath her.

“Last summer….” She whispered, as her head flooded with memories of that “incident”.
It had been a perfectly normal day at the beach, that secluded little place by the woods….And…And something had clicked in Kachie…or rather, snapped. In Shintaru. She’d gone crazy. Like some sort of rabid beast or something. And then…Then…That one girl…who was she? She said something…Shintaru went berserk; stabbing, clawing, biting…strangling…some fighting followed…That boy...Hitori, was it? Well, he was there…Something happened, then...She was hanging in the air...Shintaru had her by the neck. She used her bow, Shintaru screamed, and…stabbed Kuwa…?? The memories were fuzzy…They’d been lost in her attempts to push that day from her mind forever. But one thing was still crystal clear…
Kaitlyn had dropped to the sand, watching the blood spill from Kuwabara’s gut...And his last words…Err, what would have been his last words…
'Sorry Kaitlyn, Guess I can't take ya' up on that dinner-date after all.'
She shook her head slightly, looked back up to Shintaru, and gave a short, solemn nod. “Right…But, don’t worry. Nothing’ll go wrong. Not this time.”
After a short pause, she moved on to a much happier subject. “So, where are these “queer-piers” of yours anyway? And what, pray tell, are you doing in the Makai?”
(( Just for clarification....Kaitlyn never actually dated Kuwabara...There was this game and..Eh...Long story. ^^;; ))

The presently missing Kazuma had taken up his minute break in traipsing aimlessly beyond the little clearing out into the backwoods in search of his adored manager. Failure, despite his cat calls and avid searching he was sent home sobbing with a note clenched securely in his little fist… or at least, that would have been his answer years ago, which would have evoked another sisterly beat down to try and straiten him out. On this day however he took instead to simply leaning heavily against the soft bark of a great tree, head turned downward slightly so that the shadow set by his plume of orange fell gently across his eyes and nose..a calm sort of pensive position, rare to be found in. The plump bag had been set within reaches of his heavy motionless hands. “It figures…that he’d have some smart-ass comment like that…never listens to anythin’ I say anyway” his voice was only a bit louder than whisper though it carried far on the strong Makai winds. He lapsed into though after that choosing to hide these things for better or worse. *…not like it’s my respons-uh-bility, heck…I should be home right now with…* He drew his knee a bit closer to his chest as if to prevent his cheeks from becoming rather flushed * My love, it pains me these days spent apart, but I promise, this wait wont be long…Ill be home soon enough and- * It was odd…his spiritually adept senses had noted it upon arriving...he felt a strange soft of homey comfort in this place..as if he was somehow closer to his small rectangular den here than just outside his very home and around the block. And yet at the same time there was a chill, the so feared sort that bites down through flesh and bone when no breeze can be to blame. He pulled himself a little closer; no company could find him there.

The young toushin turned silently to gaze over his team, well, the members that were present and in his line of vision anyway. Puu was currently curled up and sleeping, promptly ignoring his counterpart at the moment. Yusuke sighed, ruby eyes glinting as he shook his head, returning to his original position of staring out over the lands. He would allow them to rest a while longer yet, as it seemed they would need it if they were to enter into a tournament again.
He shivered somewhat as the thought of a tournament brought back images of the last two he'd been in, the two he'd very nearly lost his life in, and one of which he'd nearly lost the life of his best friend. A fist clenched at his side, that would /not/ happen this time.

One of the hybrid's blood-red eyes cracked open a bit, a thought coming to her. What if Penumbra came? Way back before she'd been kicked out of her home village, she and Penumbra, a pale orange cat demon, had been rather good friends. UInfortunently, that had all slammed to a halt once the golden-eyed cat demon learned what Jess, or more specifically Shada Kira, was. Just as Sensui had, she'd gone completely nuts. Can't truthfully blame the girl; when one learned that their friend was a millenia-old serial killer's reincarnation, it kinda gets to ya. From that point on, the warped demon had devoted her life to hunting Jess down. The daft creature had so far given her only three /permanent/ injuries; the three scars that ran down her right cheek. There had been an incident a few years back when Jess and Penumbra had 'accidentaly' destroyed a temple. From the last that the bronze-haired hybrid had heard, ol' Penny had had half of her body crushed. Despite the fact that she's tried to kill her, Jess couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for the demented youkai. Of course, that meant if she were alive and came to the tournament, she'd be mad as hell and out for blood. Anyone's blood. That girl was just as insane as Sensui had been. Jess didn't really think the cat demon was a true threat. With the right half of her body smashed to bits, what was the wrst she could do? Meanwhile, Sha-Rin was fidgeting, wanting badly to chase the Scavengers. He was so childish at times.

Kurama hadn't stirred from that spot, his emerald gaze set to the ground in front of him. At the moment he wasn't particularly interested in any of the actions going on nearby. The conversations now occuring were their business. Instead he'd taken to reviewing some material from his school in Ningenkai. A bad time to be studying? Perhaps not. Their purpose here was supposedly to rest, but he had no intention of resting right now. Worrying would do him no good either, so he may as well take his attention off these things for now, ease his mind with school work.
